The quick comparison

Flower and vapes deliver cannabis two different ways, and each has advantages depending on the moment.

Flower

  • Pros: Richest flavor, full terpene profile, no batteries, most affordable per gram, the classic experience.
  • Cons: Smell is strong, less discreet, requires a grinder + rolling paper or pipe, not ideal for on-the-go.
  • Onset: 2–5 minutes, peaks around 30 minutes, fades over 2–3 hours.

Vapes

  • Pros: Discreet (minimal smell), easy to dose in small puffs, portable, consistent potency per pull.
  • Cons: More expensive per mg of THC, battery-dependent, some cartridges lose terpene fidelity compared to fresh flower.
  • Onset: 2–5 minutes, peaks around 30 minutes, similar duration to flower.

When to choose flower

If you care about the smell, taste, and ritual of cannabis — grinding, rolling, the first note of a fresh eighth when you open the jar — flower is irreplaceable. It’s also the best way to experience a specific cultivar’s terpene profile in full. Strains like Lemon Cherry Gelato or Wedding Cake taste dramatically different as flower than as a distillate cartridge.

Flower also gives you the most flexibility: you can roll a joint for a group, pack a small bowl for yourself, or use a dry-herb vaporizer for a smoke-free version of the same plant.

When to choose a vape

Vapes win on convenience and discretion. If you’re stepping outside for 10 minutes, hiking, traveling, or in a setting where you don’t want to smell like cannabis, a vape makes more sense. They’re also easier to micro-dose — one or two puffs is a manageable amount and easier to gauge than trying to take “just a little” from a joint.

The two main vape categories you’ll see:

  • Live resin cartridges — extracted from fresh-frozen flower, retain more terpenes, more flavorful and nuanced. This is the premium tier.
  • Distillate cartridges — higher potency per puff, more refined, often less flavorful but very consistent.

What we’d suggest

If you’re new to cannabis and shopping at Mrs. Green’s, we often recommend starting with a single pre-roll (flower, ready to go) and an all-in-one disposable vape. You’ll get a feel for both formats without investing in extra equipment, and you can decide which one fits your lifestyle from there.

Lab testing matters for both

Whether you’re buying flower or a cartridge, every product at Mrs. Green’s comes from a licensed New York cultivator or processor with mandatory lab testing for potency, pesticides, solvents, and contaminants. That’s the biggest reason to stick with regulated shops — unregulated carts especially can contain additives that aren’t safe to inhale.

Frequently asked

Is a vape safer than smoking flower?

Vapes avoid combustion byproducts, so they’re generally considered gentler on the lungs. But only when you buy from a licensed dispensary — unregulated carts can contain unsafe additives.

Which hits faster, flower or vape?

Both hit within 2–5 minutes, with peak effects around 30 minutes. The onset difference is minimal.

Which gives a stronger high?

Depends on the product. High-THC flower and high-potency distillate carts can deliver similar intensity. The quality of the extract and your inhalation technique matter more than the format.
